Most budgeting apps make money by seeing your money — bank-linked syncing, cloud storage of every transaction, sometimes selling anonymized spending insights. Smart Finance Hub takes the opposite position: it's self-hosted, plain PHP and JavaScript, no bank connections, no third-party data pipeline. Your household's numbers live on your own server, full stop.
It's also built specifically around how Indian households actually manage money — SIPs and FDs as first-class tracked instruments, an EMI/loan manager for the loans most generic Western budgeting tools don't model well, and a monthly worksheet format that matches how families here actually think about a budget, rather than forcing everything into a generic "category" system built for a different market.
There's a deliberate trade-off here: no mobile app, no cloud sync between devices, none of the convenience features that come from centralizing everyone's data on one platform. For a tool handling household finances, that trade felt like the right one to make.
